Shoot The Hooch

Get your floats ready… For the SIXTH straight year, it is the Shoot the Hooch Hash and it is actually on the Chattahoochee River! The location is Up the River Outfitters which is just is north of Atlanta in Sugar Hill. They have already been proven hash and drinking group friendly.

The section of river is just south of Buford Dam which means a continuous water level, aka no rocks, consistent flow and a chilly water temperature. The water temp averages about 50 degrees; even in August!!! Therefore everyone will be required to have a float with a solid bottom.

We are meeting at the outfitters location for the blowing up of tubes and pre-drinks. The outfitter will then transport everyone to the river put in. The float is approximately three hours, once off the river the outfitter will transport us back to their location for circle where you can change, eat and relax prior to driving home or better yet…

There will also be an On After (with music and beer pong) hosted by Banana Licker. BL lives only a few miles from the float and is hosting a party. Bring clothes to change, as you can shower and get pretty at his place. He also has PLENTY, really PLENTY of crash space to stay the night so you do not have to drive home after a long day of drinking and partying. All the extra food and beverages (there has never been a Shoot the Hooch where no beer was left) will be sent to his place. Pending how much extra cash is available post trip more beer and/or food will be purchased, otherwise donations will be taken once hash beer is gone. When: Saturday August 9th. Arrive at the location by 11:30 am. This will ensure enough time to blow your float, get a drink and get to the put in location.

Where: Up the River Outfitters located at 6144 Highway 20 Sugar Hill, GA 30518. Their phone number is (770) 614-3322. From the Spaghetti Junction area, travel time is approximately 30 minutes, so plan accordingly.

• Take I-85 North until it splits into I-985
• Take I-985 to Exit 4 which is GA Highway 20 (Cumming Highway.) Take LEFT at end of ramp so you are going West on GA Highway 20
• Follow GA Highway 20 until you see Up the River Outfitters on the left.
• The road will be two lanes
• There is a red/pink canoe on the sign
• Not far past the intersection of Cumming Highway/GA Highway 20 and Suwannee Dam Road

Cost: $20 this includes beverages, food, transport and tube rental. You must register and pre-pay via pay pal; it is too cumbersome to collect money the day of the float. Please register/pay by Friday, August 1 as we need to get a count to the River Outfitter, plan beer and food.

Special Instructions a/k/a What to Bring: Most important - This cannot be stressed enough, the float is just south of Buford Dam and the water is cold, so your float MUST have a bottom. You might also bring sunscreen, sunscreen, more sunscreen, shoes to wear on the river (makes getting in/out much easier) and wet suit.
