It may have been only a mile, but that wasn't an excuse to not make it interesting.

I started at Manuel"s large parking lot and crossed over N Highland. I kept on the grass, while I headed east, on the north side of FPkwy. I laid a few chalk arrows at the edge of the sidewalk, so the Hounds could continue to run on the grass. Short of Moreland I laid a check, and the nearest arrow led to a YBF trail. I laid my On-1 at the curb to Freedom Pkwy, crossed it and then laid my On-2 behind the red light control box. I then headed west, laying flour blobs on the leeward sides of the trees. I laid a check just past a collection of skate board ramps. Trail continued west, blobs of flour again on the leeward sides of the trees. I crossed back over N Highland, and continued west. Once I was across from the parking lots of the Carter Center, I laid a CB1. I crossed over to the CC center and over to the north side of FPkwy. From there I laid up to the sw corner of Manuel's parking lot where my car was located. I laid a BS.

A half mile, 30 minutes of walking, and that was it. The heat and humidity had taken its toll. Even pouring water on my head didn't do much. I survived 5.5 hours of volunteering at the PRR the day prior. WTH? Even Hell was cooler than this.

I saw Dick The Boy Wonder arrive on his Hog, circling like a vulture looking for its next meal. Or in this case, the Start. GM Hemipene showed up next, and after him, Just Nick. Knuckle Deep was last.

The Pack ran out as I basked in the flow of cold A/C and drained several bottles of water. I then went out onto the grass of the Park to watch the Pack run my trail. They found the YBF trail first, but it was relatively short, at 60' long. I wasn't out to kill them. They found trail, and seemed to take turns walking and running trail. They solved the 2nd check, and didn't seem to really notice the leeward flour blobs. It took longer for them to solve the CB1. There was really only 2 ways to go. 1 Hound finally crossed over to the CC. A few minutes later the Pack met me at the BS.

Which, to the Pack's approval, became the On-In as well. :toast:

Circle was held, and the one comment that struck me the most was, that the Pack found it "creepy" that I had been watching them. Hemi compared it to "The Hills Have Eyes, Part V". For over 75% of the time they ran trail I was able to watch them. Just Nick said it was rather voyeuristic. I thought I had lost my touch.

The Pack liked trail, and appreciated its shortness. They had only been out @ 15 minutes. After enjoying the Miller Lite, we went into Manuel's for the On-After. It was here that Dick showed off his physical and mental prowess. And that he wears toe nail polish-teal. So not my color, but.... :)

There was a set of shaped angled irons that you had to figure out how to separate them, without breaking them. Dick, relying on his knowledge of the Karma Sutra, seperated them all, and put them back together. The rest of us, just sat there, befuddled. :o
